Logs
The Apache web server records details about your website - files requested and errors that occur.
You can 'tail' (look at the most recent entries) each log file in the web browser - this can be useful if you are trying to debug CGI scripts etc.
Alternatively, you can download a compressed file containing the entire log.
You will need a file decompression program to access the uncompressed log file. FilZip is a great program to do this in Windows, and stuffit seems to be the standard program on Macs.
This information is used by AWStats to collate the information into a useful format and build into pretty graphs to help you see how your site is being accessed.
